On Thursday, July 23, 2026, crews will be working in the area of Trestle #2 on the Virginia Creeper Trail to remove trees identified as potential safety hazards.
The work may result in temporary trail closures and intermittent delays until crews safely remove the trees and clear the area. Please use caution, follow any posted signage or instructions. Crews hope to complete the removal early in the morning in an effort to minimize the impacts to trail traffic.

🚧 Utility Work 🚧
Beginning Monday, July 20, Washington County Service Authority (WCSA) will be conducting water line improvements in the areas of Madison Street, South Court Street, and the intersection of South Court Street and Hickman Street.
This project will upgrade an existing 4-inch water line to a 6-inch line to restore a fire hydrant currently out of service and improve service in the area.
Motorists should expect temporary road closures, traffic shifts, and posted detours throughout the duration of the project. At this time, there is no estimated completion date.
Please use caution when traveling in the area and follow any posted signage or flaggers. We appreciate your patience as these important infrastructure improvements are completed.
Wayfinding Sign Installation
Over the next few weeks, crews will be installing Wayfinding Signs around Town! Construction activities will occur along Main Street, from Cummings Street to Preston Street. Please anticipate intermittent lane and sidewalk closures during this time.
Weather permitting, work is scheduled to begin on Monday, July 20, 2026. Please use caution when traveling in the area and follow any posted signage or flaggers.
Road Closure Notice: Walden Road
Beginning Wednesday, July 15, through Friday, July 31, Walden Road will be closed to through traffic while crews replace the culvert crossing beneath the "S" curve.
Residents will continue to have access to their properties throughout the project, and access to homes will not be blocked.
Please use extra caution if you're traveling in the area, as construction equipment and crews will be working in the roadway. Please follow any posted signage and flaggers when traveling in the area, plan ahead and use an alternate route whenever possible.

The Town is currently evaluating and addressing traffic signal equipment issues at several intersections. We are working to resolve these equipment issues as quickly as possible.
At this time, the following intersections are operating on timed signal cycles due to equipment failures affecting vehicle detection:
• Russell Road & Main Street
• Wall Street & Main Street
• Baugh Lane & Thompson Drive
• Thompson Drive & Main Street
Because these signals are operating on fixed timing rather than detecting traffic, motorists may experience longer-than-normal wait times, especially during peak travel hours. We appreciate your patience and understanding while we work to resolve these issues.
