Just a friendly reminder that the Solid Waste schedule will change this week due to the Thanksgiving holiday! Please see the schedule below:

RESTORING & EXPLORING ABINGDON
Welcome to the very first segment of Restoring and Exploring Abingdon! If it’s getting restored, rebuilt, reimagined, or rediscovered—we’re going to talk about it. From historic landmarks getting a new lease on life to community improvements you’ve maybe driven by ten times without noticing, we're here to shine a light on all the good things happening behind the scenes.
Abingdon has a long story, and we’re adding new chapters every day. We’ll be diving into the projects that keep our town moving forward while honoring the history that got us here.
Let’s get started—there’s a lot to explore! Our first project we'd like to highlight is the new Heritage Apple Orchard at the Abingdon Muster Grounds.
If you’ve visited the Abingdon Muster Grounds within the last week you may have noticed a new landscape feature. Last Friday a crew of Kevin Sigmon (Town Arborist), Tom McMullen (Tumbling Creek Cider Company), Mike Henningsen (Abingdon Muster Grounds Committee), and Gabe Cristofari (Town Senior Planner) planted twelve heirloom apple trees with room to expand in the future. These twelve heirloom apple trees have been designated the Heritage Apple Orchard and can have their origins traced back to the Revolutionary Era!! But there is one tree left to plant and there is an exciting reason why.
On Sunday, November 30, 2025, a Harvest Muster will be held from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Abingdon Muster Grounds. Join Mike Henningsen with your favorite leftover apple dessert as we plant the last heirloom apple tree and talk about exciting stories of the backcountry!
