Thank You, Community!
Yesterday’s storms brought heavy rain and strong winds to our area. We sincerely thank Washington County Central Dispatch, Abingdon Fire Department, Town of Abingdon Public Works, Washington County Life Saving Crew, American Electric Power, tree contractors, and all the other agencies and groups who worked tirelessly to assist our citizens.
⚠️ Please continue to use caution as storm debris remains in some areas and road closures may still be in place. Obey all barricades and closure signs.
🌊 Turn around, don’t drive through high water! Thank you for your patience and cooperation as crews continue their work.

📚 Welcome Back to School, Washington County! 🍎
The Abingdon Police Department is proud to serve the students, staff, and families of Abingdon High School and E.B. Stanley Middle School, where our School Resource Officers are on campus each day keeping our schools safe.
As school resumes tomorrow, expect increased traffic, school buses, pedestrians, and construction in school zones. Please slow down, stay alert, and leave a few minutes early to allow extra travel time. Your patience and caution help keep our students, families, and school staff safe.

We had a great time at the EO Career Discovery Camp Public Service Block Party! Chief Holbrook and members of the Abingdon Police Department enjoyed meeting with students, sharing information about careers in law enforcement, and giving them a hands-on look at police work. Students explored a police vehicle, asked questions, and learned more about serving their community.
Thank you to the students for the thoughtful handmade gift bags for our officers. We truly appreciate your kindness!

🚲 Plumb Alley Day was a great success! Members of the Abingdon Police Department enjoyed spending time with our community, sharing bicycle safety tips, and connecting with local families. We were also thankful the weather held out for most of the day!
A special thank you to Abingdon Virginia Creeper Trail Bike Shop, Good Lions Lodge #8, Abingdon Walmart Supercenter, and an anonymous donor for helping provide 30 new children’s bicycle helmets for our Bike Safety Event. Helmets were raffled off following our bicycle safety talk, helping keep young riders safe this season. 💙
We appreciate each donor and everyone who stopped by to participate in the raffle and support bicycle safety!
