Join us in two weeks at E.O. in Abingdon for a free, family-friendly community event.

This year's National Night Out will feature:
✅Meet and Greet with local Police, Fire, and EMS with emergency response vehicles
✅A live K9 Demonstration by the Washington County Virginia Sheriff’s Office
✅A live demonstration by the Abingdon Fire Department
✅A visit from HEART (Highlands Emergency Air Rescue and Transport) helicopter
✅Free food provided by Highlands Fellowship Church
✅Games by Wolf Den Games and Nintendo
✅Mini Golf by The Traveling Bear
✅Activities and resources provided by several community resource partners

National Night Out is a nationwide initiative that promotes relationships between first responders and the communities they serve. This event provides an opportunity for meaningful engagement, public education, and positive interaction with local organizations.

At the recent Town Council meeting, Officer Pile was presented with the Life Saving Award for his heroic actions while off duty. In April, Officer Pile responded to a serious motorcycle crash before EMS arrived. Drawing on his extensive training as both a United States Marine and a police officer, he provided critical medical aid - including the application of tourniquets - which helped save the life of Mr. Raymond Mitchell Jr., a fellow law enforcement officer from Wythe County Sheriff's Office. Mr. Mitchell and his family were in attendance for the award presentation. During the ceremony, after receiving the Life Saving award, Officer Pile humbly said, "The thing that makes me the happiest is seeing Mr. Mitchell." Officer Pile's swift and composed response in a critical moment reflects the highest standards of service and professionalism. 🚨 SCAM ALERT: Fake Invoice Emails Circulating 🚨 The Abingdon Police Department has been made aware of a scam involving fraudulent invoices being emailed to individuals and businesses, appearing to come from the Town of Abingdon. Here are some important red flags to watch for: 📌 Emails coming from a ".com" address — Official emails from the Town will always come from @abingdon-va.gov, not .com addresses. 📌 Requests for wire transfers — The Town of Abingdon does not request wire transfers for payments. If you receive a suspicious invoice or email, do not respond or send payment. Instead, contact the Town directly at (276) 628-3167 to verify its legitimacy, or call the Abingdon Police Department’s non-emergency number at (276) 628-3111. The Town of Abingdon was recently made aware of its inclusion on the Department of Homeland Security's list of sanctuary jurisdictions. This designation came without prior notice or explanation. Upon learning of the listing, we immediately contacted the Office of the U.S. Representative Morgan Griffith for assistance in correcting the error. We also contacted our federal law enforcement partners and have been advised that Abingdon will be removed from the list. The Abingdon Police Department remains in full compliance with federal law and maintains strong, ongoing cooperation with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies.
